darts & arrows grew out of guitarist-songwriter bill mackay's embryonic vision for a folk group, playing their 1st gig at south union arts in chicago in 2006. that vision quickly expanded and swelled as the band's surreal folk sense was shaded by experimental rock and free improvisation: the dark and woodsy acoustic early lineup has turned more fiery electric. so far the band has one independent album under its belt: bill mackay and darts & arrows (2010 son of fire recordings).

listening to those records [broken things/swim to the river and bill mackay and sounds of now] i hear a musician working hard to define himself and create an original sound...listening to the recent self-titled debut by his ensemble darts & arrows, which he started in 2006, i hear a musician who's succeeded in doing just that.
peter margasak post no bills, the chicago reader

[darts & arrows is a] chicago quartet that takes folk/pop instrumentals and turns them into improvised explorations. instrumental pop music – if such a thing can exist – is rare to hear played live, and played well, rarer still, but mackay’s compositions are much more nuanced than your typical jamband.

MIKROKOLEKTYW have been making waves on the european music scene for the past 6 years. known for their high energy, electronics driven, acoustic jazz the duo of drummer kuba suchar and trumpeter artur majewski came together from the ashes of the polish jazz supergroup robotobibok.
as a duo their stripped down style has become almost impressionistic, organically building compositions from improvisational elements. having shared the stage with chicago jazz heavy weights like fred anderson, nicole mitchell, and rob mazurek’s exploding star orchestra, not to mention international artists matmos, fennesz, zu, tied and tickled trio, and sao paulo underground, mikrokolektyw have performed at some of the world’s greatest music and arts festivals including chicago’s world music festival, unsound festival - krakow, depresja, off festival, STIMUL, and eurosonic festival.
